February 26, 2016 - Class #7

Can you believe we're halfway through this semester already?  Keep up the good work!  Check out our Hall of Fame with lots more 28 day-ers on it.

NOTE:  Get this book:  The Other Side of Heaven by John Groberg and read it by April 22. There are lots of used copies starting at .01 + 3.99 shipping.  The book is even better than the movie!  Notice how Elder Groberg lives his life - What thoughts, feelings and actions (choices he makes) does he have, and how does that affect his results?

Brain Book:  Read chapter 5 this week.

If you got it once is it important to keep doing it?  Absolutely!  The more you practice these habits, the more they become routines, and eventually rituals. They become a part of who you are.  A ritual is something you do every day pretty much without thinking about it and if you don't do it, it feels funny to you.  Create those POWER rituals in your life.  These little actions may not seem like much, but they build who you are.  They help you become the person God wants you to be and to find and fulfill your purpose in life.  That is a TRUTH!  So keep moving on your 28 days!

Sow a thought and you reap an action

Sow an act and you reap a habit

Sow a habit and you reap a character

Sow a character and you reap a destiny.

 -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today we discussed how your body is trying to send you messages but you can't always hear those messages if your mind is filled with chatter, if you're not alignment with your core values / the gospel, or if you're just not listening.  How can you recognize what is stopping you from getting what you want?

Thoughts lead to Emotions which lead to Actions which lead to your results.

Look at what you are thinking and feeling.  You may be able to find areas where your thoughts and feelings aren't in alignment with your core, your true self, the spirit.  But often we have the blinders on ourselves and we think we are right SO much, that we can't see where we are out of alignment.  When we get frustrated with others, it's usually because there is something in ourselves that we need to change, but we end up blaming it on the other people.  That gives us poor results.  But if we can look at ourselves and discover what we need to change about ourselves, our results will get better.

We become disconnected from our bodies/temples when we aren't in alignment with God. When we  figure out how we can get into more alignment, we get more messages from the spirit.  We don't have to be perfect, we just need to be listening and acting on those thoughts.

Another way to find out where we are stopping ourselves is to listen to our bodies.  Our bodies can send us messages of what we need to do to change.  Here are two action items you can try:

(1) Write a letter to your Body
Part 1:  Write a letter to your body. Start off with, “Dear Body.”  Then write what comes to your mind.  Be open and don’t hold back. Tell your body how you feel about it.  You can ask it questions if you like. Sign it at the end.  This can be an exercise you try in your power journal.

Part 2:  Next comes the very interesting part.   Write another letter, but this time write it to yourself from our body.  Start it with “Dear (your name)”.  Write what message your body has for you.  Your brain may tell you this is weird, but if you want answers, just go with it.

(2) Visualization / The Body Scan

Get very still and focused. First focus on your breathing.  If your mind wanders, acknowledge it, and then refocus yourself.  Practice being PRESENT - no judgment, just notice.

Try listening to meditation music such as this (first song I played in class).  Or the video below:

Picture the light that comes in to you from the sun (the Son), down through your head and into your body.  Go through your body parts and just notice.  Listen for any messages.

Ask your body:
(1) Is there anyone I need to forgive?  Whoever comes to mind, ask your body to forgive that person and let go of any grudges.  Then picture yourself handing your grudge to the savior, who will take it for you.  Next replace it with love.
(2) Is there anything I need to repent of?  Your body knows if you need to repent.  You can’t keep secrets from your body.  Then picture yourself handing your sins to the savior and allowing him to take your burden.  Picture it being replaced with love.
(3) Is there anyone I have wronged?  Sometimes we might not know if we’ve caused someone hurt, but our spirit knows.   If you feel tension in your chest, that could be caused from pain you’ve caused another person.  Hand it over to the savior, replace it with love.
(4) Is there someone I need to make amends to?  Our bodies know the truth.  We may feel pain, tension, guilt, sick to our stomachs when we think of someone we have wronged.  Repent, turn it over to the savior. Write down what you need to do.

Who do you need to write a kind note to?  Kind notes bring joy to both of you!
